You’d think being a 3-time NCAA All-American in wrestling would be enough to satisfy one’s athletic appetite, but for Jared Rosholt it was only the beginning. After an impressive wrestling record of 125-27 at Oklahoma State Univeristy, which put him as the winningest Heavyweight in the history of Oklahoma State, Rosholt is looking to make history in mixed martial arts as well. The Team Takedown athletes carries a sensational record of 10-1 in MMA, and looks to add another one to his win column this weekend. Rosholt isn’t one to use his wrestling advantage to just lay on an opponent. Of his 10 professional victories, he’s stopped his opponent in 6 fights, with 3 wins coming by TKO/KO and 3 by submission. This Saturday he takes on a tough opponent in Soa Palelei who has won 11 straight pro fights all by TKO/KO.
This Heavyweight battle takes place in Auckland, New Zealand just a few hundred miles from Palelei’s home country of Australia. Being away from home isn’t a problem for Rosholt as he’s coming off a dominant victory over submission specialist Daniel Omielanczuk in Abu Dhabi just 2 months ago. Should this fight stay standing, Rosholt will have to keep defending strikes as he has in the past. During his time in the UFC, he has successfully defended 67% of strikes thrown at him. Palelei has a reputation of trading blows, in hopes that he simply overpowers his opponent, as he only avoids 48% of strikes that come his way. If this fight attempts to go to the ground, it could be difficult to get there as Rosholt has never been taken down in his UFC tenure, and Palelei has defended 83% of takedowns himself.
This fight should be a barnburner with two Heavyweights looking to get a fight against a top-10 opponent in the most dangerous division in MMA. Make sure you catch this grudge match in the co-main event slot of UFC Fight Night, only available on UFC Fight Pass Saturday, June 28th! The main card kicks off at 5 AM EST/2AM PST.
